Diesel Exhaust Fluid
Handling
What is DEF?
DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) is an organic,
non toxic compound composed of 32.5% urea and 67.5% DI water. In a Selective Catalytic Converter System (SCR), diesel exhaust
fluid is added to the diesel exhaust in the presence of a catalyst to convert smog producing nitrogen oxide into harmless
nitrogen and water vapor. The emissions in the exhaust can then meet the EPA’s new stricter emission standards
for new diesel vehicles. This mandate takes effect January 1, 2010. To meet the new regulations, diesel trucks will have on-board DEF storage tanks ranging
in capacity from 16 to 30 gallons. An important requirement of an SCR (Selective Catalytic Converter) System is the consistent
refilling of these storage tanks.
How are DEF
Pumps used?
To fill these
storage tanks, Finish Thompson provides economical drum transfer pumps for open system containers and a higher
volume, sealless centrifugal pump for custom engineered dispensing systems. Designed for years of reliable service, Finish Thompson DEF Pumps are constructed of high quality, non-contaminating
inert materials which will not compromise the strict purity requirement of the DEF (ISO 22241-3).
Finish Thompson Inc. is a United States manufacturer of high quality, industrial grade pumping systems. In operation
since 1951, Finish Thompson products are used by tens of thousands of customers worldwide to transfer a variety
of chemicals including some of the most aggressive acids and bases.
